Randall reaches 600th career victory
With a 62-56 win over Miami Gulliver Prep on Tuesday, Chaminade-Madonna coach Melvin Randall picked up his 600th career victory, according to the school.
“[Six hundred] career wins is quite an accomplishment,” Chaminade athletic director Matthew Bishop said. “Coach Randall’s longevity in a sport that he loves is a testament to his dedication to the game of basketball and the student-athletes that he has coached and mentored.”
Randall is in his first season as the Lions’ head coach, and Chaminade is 7-9. Before the Hollywood private school, he coached Deerfield Beach and Blanche Ely.
Randall’s career record is 600-193. He won a pair of state championships with Deerfield Beach and won seven more with Blanche Ely, including backto-back championships in 2018 and 2019.
Randall was named the USA Today’s Boys Basketball Coach of the Year and the National High School Coaches Association Coach of the Year in 2015 after leading the Tigers to an undefeated season and a state title.
Randall is the second local basketball coach to reach a hefty milestone this year. King’s Academy coach Murray Smith picked up his 700th career win earlier this month.
“I would like to thank my mentors,” Randall said in a press release. “I would like to thank all of my coaching staff and players that were at Deerfield Beach High, Blanche Ely High, and presently at Chaminade-Madonna that has made it possible for me to reach my 600th career wins milestone.”
