Seminoles add a 4-star playmaker

- By Matt Murschel

Mike Norvell’s first season at Florida State may not have gone as planned but the first-year coach has worked quickly to overhaul the roster with a mix of talented high school prospects and established veterans through the transfer portal. Here’s where the Seminoles stand:

ADDITIONS SINCE EARLY SIGNING DAY: FSU made a final push to snag Destyn Hill, a 4-star receiver ranked No. 113 in the country on National Signing Day. Norvell calls Hill a complete receiver and a dynamic playmaker that can help strengthen the position for the Seminoles. “To add him coupled with Malik McClain and Josh Burrell that are here on campus right now, that is a great trio of young freshmen receivers that I think have an unbelievable ceiling for what they can accomplish. … The Seminoles dipped into the transfer portal to strengthen several spots, adding receiver Andrew Parchment, cornerback Brandon Moore, safety Jammie Robinson, defensive tackle Keir Thomas, running back D.J. Williams and linebacker Jermain Johnson. “We want to have great balance in our roster so to be able to add the experience that we’ve been able to bring in … when you’re able to bring in guys that understand what it takes and already have that production at the college level that helps bridge the gap,” said Norvell.

GAPS TO FILL: The Seminoles were one of the youngest teams in college football with most of the roster filled with underclassmen. Receivers Keyshawn Helton and Ontaria Wilson have a combined 24 career starts but the rest of the group has started a combined three games. The additions of Keir Thomas and Jermaine Johnson have been huge for a defensive end spot that lost a lot of experience this offseason. … Norvell indicated FSU could add another piece or two soon. “There is one position need that we’re going to address and then we’ll probably get to the best available,” said Norvell. “There’s a couple of options out there that we’re discussing and exploring but at the end of the day it still has to come down to the right fit.”
