Cops: Slain woman in armed robbery trying to help friend
DAVIE — A woman was shot dead when she got between a gunman and another woman during an apparent armed robbery attempt. Now, police are searching for the man who pulled the trigger.
Nicole Danielle Frissora, 40, was sitting with a friend out front of a home in the 6100 block of Southwest 43rd Street in Davie when she was gunned down. The gunman walked up to the pair, grabbed the friend by the arm and ordered both women inside the house, according to the police report.
When Frissora tried to push him off her friend, he fired a shot from close range that hit Frissora in the upper left chest. The shooter then ran back to a getaway car and sped off , investigators said.
The shooter’s alleged accomplice, Thomas Matthew Kennedy, was taken into custody Sunday on a charge of felony murder and is being held in the Broward County Jail without bond, records show.
Kennedy, 33, of Davie, was among several onlookers who gathered at the scene hours after the deadly shooting. Detectives said they were told Kennedy had been in the getaway car with the shooter.
Kennedy denied any involvement and refused to answer questions at the time of his arrest, police said.
According to the arrest report, a witness told detectives Kennedy had picked up the gunman early Sunday morning at a Greyhound bus station in Fort Lauderdale and dropped him off at an apartment.
Later that day, Kennedy went out to buy some pills from Frissora. When Kennedy returned to the apartment, the two men discussed committing a robbery, investigators said.
They drove to the home where Frissora and her friend were sitting outside. The gunman got out of the back seat of the car, approached the women, and fired the fatal shot at Frissora. He then ran back to the car and took off, police said.
Investigators are asking anyone who knows the identity of the shooter or has information on his whereabouts to contact Broward Crime Stoppers anonymously at 954-493-8477 or online at browardcrimestoppers.org.
