Van Noy praises Belichick, not Flores

- By Keven Lerner

Former Miami Dolphins linebacker Kyle Van Noy’s short response to a reporter’s question about Brian Flores spoke volumes.

When asked about the difference he saw between Brian Flores as the head coach of the Dolphins and Brian Flores as the linebackers coach for the New England Patriots, Van Noy didn’t have to say much to get his point across.

“Yeah, no comment,” he tersely answered during his introductory videoconference with New England media after rejoining the Patriots on a two-year deal last week.

Van Noy, who was recently cut by the Dolphins after just one season into his four-year, $51 million deal ( just $15 million of which was guaranteed) in what was a cost-cutting move, also was asked if he will feel more of an edge when he faces the Dolphins this season.

This time Van Noy needed three words to answer the question. “Sure,” he said. “You’ll see.” He later added: “I know everything they do down there [in Miami]. It’s gonna be good.”

His release came as a shock to

Van Noy — the two-time Super Bowl champion who played under Flores when both were in New England — is coming off one of his best seasons with six sacks while recording career highs with 10 tackles for a loss and six pass deflections.

He also raved about Patriots coach Bill Belichick and said he will be playing with extra motivation after the way his Dolphins career ended.

“He’s one of the greatest, if not the greatest coach in the game,” Van Noy said. “I think it starts from the head man, and I think he knows what he wants and how to get the pieces he wants and put it together.

“I think as players we’ve just got to come together as quickly as possible and have one goal in mind. And I think everybody’s got that right now. I can just tell you from speaking to some of the players how hungry and excited they are.

“And I’m really excited . ... I’ve got a big chip on my shoulder too.”

Van Noy, 29, voiced his displeasure after his sudden release by the Dolphins earlier this month.

“I am surprised and disappointed in their decision,” Van Noy wrote in a statement to NFL Network on March 2.

“As a captain, I gave my all to the team. I fought through a painful hip injury during the season, including spending a night in the hospital after a game. I was brought there to be a leader, and I know my teammates looked up to and respected me.

“I am looking forward to making an impact on my next team, on and off the field.”

He couldn’t be happier beginning his second stint with New England.
