Rodrigo drops reflective new single

-

Olivia Rodrigo has returned with the follow-up single to her record-breaking debut release, “Drivers License,” and announced that her first album is coming on May 21.

Released Thursday, the track, titled “Deja Vu,” details the suspicion that one’s ex-significant other is now doing everything that made a relationship special — with someone else.

Rodrigo’s vocals give the song’s biting lyrics a sweet kind of burn, perhaps expanding on the subject matter of “Drivers License.”

“The concept of deja vu has always fascinated me, and I thought it would be cool to use it in a song around the complex feelings after a relationship ends,” Rodrigo says. “I started writing and recording ‘Deja Vu’ last fall and had so much fun creating the different melodies and sonic textures that you hear throughout.”

Rodrigo’s “Drivers License” debuted at No. 1 across major streaming services and broke the Spotify record for the most single-day streams for a non-holiday song. The song also had the biggest weekly streaming debut for any song globally in Spotify’s history, and debuted at the top of the Billboard Hot 100.

Simon sells song catalog: Sony Music Publishing announced Wednesday that it has acquired Paul Simon’s catalog, which includes six decades of music, from his time in Simon & Garfunkel to his solo career. Financial details of the deal were not announced.

Simon has won 16 Grammy Awards. His well-known songs include “Bridge Over Troubled Water,” “The Boxer,” “The Sound of Silence,” “Mrs. Robinson” and “50 Ways to Leave Your Lover.”

“I’m pleased to have Sony Music Publishing be the custodian of my songs for the coming decades. I began my career at Columbia/Sony Records, and it feels like a natural extension to be working with the Publishing side as well,” Simon, 79, said in a statement.

Petersen, Fox return for ‘CSI’ sequel: “CSI” is coming back to CBS. A sequel series, “CSI: Vegas,” has been picked up for the 2021-22 season, the network announced Wednesday.

Banks will return as ‘DWTS’ host: Despite some hiccups, Tyra Banks is staying put as the host of ABC’s “Dancing with the Stars.” Judges Len Goodman, Derek Hough, Carrie Ann Inaba and Bruno Tonioli are also all expected to return for the dancing competition series’s 30th season.

After taking the helm last year, Banks faced social media criticism from die-hard fans over her fashion choices and hairstyles as well as missed cues and on-air mishaps.
