Fans: Marc Anthony’s first virtual concert is epic fail

- By Yvonne H. Valdez El

A concert that was supposed to be historic for Puerto Rican superstar Marc Anthony instead resulted in a flood of complaints on social media, left by scores of fans who were ready to watch the artist’s first and only virtual concert on Saturday night.

Millions of people around the world bought tickets for the event, which did not go on as planned.

As announced by Marc Anthony, tickets were sold in more than 85 countries for the so-called #MarcAnthonyUnaNoche concert with special guest Daddy Yankee. The two recently released the hit song “De Vuelta Pa’ La Vuelta.”

Anthony took to social media to apologize to fans, saying that there were tech issues and “a total collapse of the streaming platform,” according to his Instagram.

Apology messages were posted

on Facebook, Twitter and Instagram:

“You can rest assured that I’ll do everything in my power that people that spent their hard-earned money have the opportunity to see the show as soon as possible and will make it right for you all,” Anthony said in his message.

El Sentinel South Florida received several complaints from his followers.

“I’m sure you know by now that LOTS of fans are extremely upset about the technical issues on the livestream concert. Live pass is not answering emails and not posting any information regarding the issues,” said Jose Flores in an email. “With all the techies in this world and Marc Anthony’s management (everyone is trying to save a buck) this is extremely disappointing and unfortunate.”

“We had family and friends, following CDC guidelines of course, excited about watching what I’m sure would have been a awesome concert, instead millions of fans have been mislead (bait & switch).

They had fans pre purchase, knowing they could not technically support the millions of people logging on to a livestream servers that DO NOT SUPPORT that kind of service,” added Flores.

Like Flores, millions of fans around the world wonder what will happen to the money they paid.

The concert had a pre-sale cost of $25 and was supposed to air every four hours for 24 hours, beginning April 17 at 12 a.m.

El Sentinel tried unsuccessfully to contact the event’s promoters for comment.
