Bond set at $4 million for fourth-grade teacher facing new charges

A fourth-grade teacher faces new charges for soliciting minors after additional victims came forward following his arrest on April 1. His bond was raised to $4 million.

Xavier Donte Alexander, 27, remains in Palm Beach County jail on charges he solicited a minor, traveled to meet a 2-year-old, and molested boys he babysat for years.

He also faces fraud charges for stealing a Social Security card and checkbook from the home of a man who hired him for housekeeping in March, booking documents say.

Alexander was a teacher at Grove Park Elementary School in Palm Beach Gardens and was listed as a babysitter on Care.com and other nanny websites, according to the Palm Beach County Sheriff’s Office. Around the time of his arrest, a profile on LinkedIn indicated he had worked at the school for six months and for the district since 2012.

Since his arrest, at least five people have come forward with allegations Alexander sexually abused them, according to probable cause affidavits that describe the allegations. Many of them were boys he babysat for years.

The Palm Beach County School District said it is working with investigators and conducting a professional standards investigation. The district released a statement that said the crimes Alexander is accused of committing did not occur on school property and did not involve district students. Grove Park administrators reached out to parents of students in Alexander’s class and offered support services, the statement said.

“He will not be returning to the School District as a teacher, or in any other capacity, pending the outcome of the criminal investigation,” the district’s statement read.
