Carrie Ann Inaba departs ‘The Talk’

-

After taking a leave of absence in April, Carrie Ann Inaba will be exiting CBS’ “The Talk.”

Reportedly, Inaba, who had served as co-host of the daytime talk show for over two years, parted ways mutually. Whether CBS will replace Inaba before the show airs new episodes in September remains unknown.

“I enjoyed my time at ‘The Talk’ as co-host and moderator, and I am grateful for the opportunity I had to grow with the entire ‘Talk’ family as well as truly connect with the viewers on such a personal level,” Inaba said in a statement. “I will miss ‘The Talk,’ but I am excited for the next chapter both for myself and for the show.”

Inaba cited a need to prioritize her mental health and well-being in taking her leave of absence.

“Carrie Ann’s authenticity and openness created a special connection and relationship with our audience. We will always be grateful for her contributions here at ‘The Talk’ over the last 3 seasons,” Heather Gray and Kristin Matthews, executive producers at “The Talk,” said in a statement.

Singer Hall dies: Tom T. Hall, 85, the singer-songwriter who composed “Harper Valley P.T.A.” and sang about life’s simple joys as country music’s consummate blue collar bard, has died. His son, Dean Hall, confirmed the musician’s death on Friday at his home in Franklin, Tennessee.

Known as “The Storyteller” for his unadorned yet incisive lyrics, Hall composed hundreds of songs. Hall helped usher in a literary era of country music in the early ’70s, with songs that were political, like “Watergate Blues,” deeply personal like “The Year Clayton Delaney Died,” and philosophical like “(Old Dogs, Children and) Watermelon Wine.”

His breakthrough was writing “Harper Valley P.T.A.,” a 1968 international hit about small-town hypocrisy recorded by Jeannie C. Riley. The song about a mother telling a group of busybodies to mind their own business was witty and feisty and became a No. 1 country and pop hit. The story was so popular it even spawned a movie of the same name and a television series.

Hall was inducted into the Nashville Songwriters Hall of Fame in 1978, the Country Music Hall of Fame in 2008 and the Songwriters Hall of Fame in 2019.

Disney seeks arbitration in Johansson suit:

Disney has filed a motion to force star and executive producer Scarlett Johansson into a private arbitration to address whether she is owed millions from the hybrid release of “Black Widow.” In the motion, attorney Daniel Petrocelli also argues that Disney lived up to its obligation to give the film a “wide theatrical” release, but that nothing in the contract required the release to be exclusive to theaters.

In her lawsuit, Johansson argued that the decision to simultaneously release “Black Widow” in theaters and on Disney+ cannibalized the film’s box office revenue and cost her tens of millions of dollars.
