A majority of Florida voters disapproved of President Joe Biden’s performance in a public opinion poll released Wednesday.

The Quinnipiac University Poll found 40% of Florida voters approve of Biden’s performance, with 53% disapproving, a net negative of 13 percentage points.

That’s worse than the president’s national approval rating, with is 47% favorable and 49% unfavorable in the Real Clear Politics average of seven recent national polls.

In the Quinnipiac Poll, 87% of Florida Democratic voters approved of Biden’s performance and 91% of Republicans disapproved.

Among independent voters, 56% disapproved and 36% approved of Biden’s performance.

The central issue of Biden’s candidacy and, so far his presidency, been the COVID-19 pandemic. On that issue, Quinnipiac found he received better marks from Florida voters than on his overall performance.

The poll found 47% approved and 49% disapproved of his handling of COVID.

Florida voters, who are deeply divided politically, weren’t overly enthusiastic about any of their top elected officials, all of whom are Republicans.

Gov. Ron DeSantis — 47% approve; 45% disapprove. Net positive 2 percentage points.

U.S. Sen. Rick Scott — 42% approve; 40% disapprove. Net positive 2 points.

U.S. Sen. Marco Rubio — 49% approve; 38% disapprove. Net positive 11 points.

The results come from a Quinnipiac University survey of 889 Florida registered voters conducted by live interviewers calling landlines and cell phones from Aug. 17-21. It had a margin of error of plus or minus 3 percentage points.
