Jackson Jr. leads ChaminadeM­adonna to season-opening win

Kenyatta Jackson Jr. entered his senior year as one of the nation’s top defensive ends, and on Friday, he lived up to the hype.

Jackson racked up four sacks to help lead the Lions to a 30-13 victory over Western in both teams’ seasonopen­er.

Here are some more top performers in Broward and Palm Beach County high school football from last week:

Tyler Kelly | Inlet Grove

The senior quarterbac­k was 17 of 23 for 354 yards and five touchdowns. Kelly also had four rushes for 43 yards and contribute­d four tackles and a pass defended in the Hurricanes’ 49-8 win over West Boca.

Davion Gause | Chaminade-Madonna

Gause, who played a key role as a freshman running back for Chaminade last year, started his sophomore season with a big performanc­e. He had 127 rushing yards and two touchdowns on 16 carries.

Zion Turner | St. Thomas Aquinas

Turner helped lead the Raiders to a nationally televised win over St. Frances Academy, completing 22 of 32 passes for 299 yards and two touchdowns. He also ran for 37 yards and a score.

Silas Hinson | Inlet Grove

The senior athlete accounted for four total touchdowns with eight receptions for 156 yards and three TDs and a kick return for a score in the Hurricanes’ 49-8 win over West Boca. Defensivel­y, he added three tackles, an INT and five passes defended.

Davi Belfort | Cardinal Newman

The freshman quarterbac­k was 10 for 18 for 244 yards, three passing touchdowns and two rushing touchdowns in a 55-0 win over King’s Academy.

Jeno Junius | Chaminade-Madonna

Junius had a pair of sacks in the Lions’ victory, both of which came on the final drive of the first half. His two sacks helped keep the Wildcats at bay.

Donnell Johnson | Flanagan

Johnson, a defensive lineman, racked up 4.5 sacks and seven quarterbac­k pressures in Flanagan’s 33-6 win over Everglades.

Teremun “T.J.” Lott | Inlet Grove

The junior wide receiver and defensive back had five receptions for 117 yards, two rushes for 76 yards and a touchdown in the Hurricanes’ 49-8 win over West Boca. He added two passes defended and six tackles.

Harlem Howard | Deerfield Beach

Howard had a massive performanc­e in Deerfield Beach’s win over Miami Edison. He had five tackles, an intercepti­on, a forced fumble, a fumble recovery and a blocked punt. Howard also sealed the victory by blocking a field goal and scoring a touchdown to end the game.

Mason Taylor | St. Thomas Aquinas

Taylor was Turner’s biggest target in the Raiders’ win, bringing in 10 catches for 133 yards.

Tovani Mizell | Cardinal Newman

The sophomore running back had four carries for 60 yards and two catches for 45 yards and a score in Cardinal Newman’s win.

Antoine Jackson | Dillard

Jackson played a key role in the Panthers’ big win over Boyd Anderson on Friday. He had three pass break-ups and two intercepti­ons — one of which he returned for a touchdown.

Kevin Levy | Cardinal Newman

The sophomore receiver had two catches for 81 yards and a score in the Crusaders’ win.

Naazir Aiken | Park Vista

The senior wide receiver and defensive back contribute­d 100 all-purpose yards, a TD and an INT as the Cobras beat Suncoast 41-6.

Deshawn Willoughby | Deerfield Beach

Willoughby, a senior defensive tackle, was dominant in the Bucks’ win. He had six total tackles, two tackles for loss and three sacks.

Kameron Basis | Park Vista

The senior defensive tackle had five tackles, three tackles for losses, two forced fumbles, a fumble recovery and a sack in a 41-6 win over Suncoast.

Matthew Wilson | Stoneman Douglas

Wilson gashed Cooper City’s defense for 128 yards and two scores as the Eagles rolled to a 33-0 win.

Shomari Pettigrew | Benjamin

The junior running back had nine rushes for 102 yard and two scores in a 48-12 victory over St. Andrew’s.

Hervin Louis | Stoneman Douglas

Louis had four catches for 85 yards and a pair of touchdowns in Stoneman Douglas’ victory.

Jack Reid | Boca Christian

The senior linebacker had a gamehigh 15 tackles, a sack and a fumble recovery as the Blazers beat Palm Beach Christian Prep 31-6.

Dalton Lyons | Benjamin

The senior center registered 14 pancake blocks in Benjamin’s season-opening win.

Chris Cepeda | Stoneman Douglas

Cepeda, a senior defensive back, picked off two passes as Stoneman Douglas shut out Cooper City.

Devin Lambert | Boca Christian

The junior defensive back returned two intercepti­ons for touchdowns and added three tackles and pass breakup in Boca Raton Christian’s win.

Alex Brotton | Stoneman Douglas

Brotton, a senior defensive lineman, had six tackles, three tackles for loss and a sack in Stoneman Douglas’ win.

Joel Shiver | Boca Christian

The senior defensive lineman had four sacks in a 31-6 win over Palm Beach Christian Prep.

Julian Lewis | Western

Lewis had 113 receiving yards on nine catches in the Wildcats’ loss to Chaminade-Madonna.

Ryan Preisendor­f | Jupiter

The senior offensive and defensive lineman graded out at 92% with three pancake blocks on offense in the Warriors’ 8-7 loss to Dwyer. He also had three assists and a hurry on defense.

Gerald Hernandez | McArthur

Hernandez played a key role in McArthur’s win over Blanche Ely. The senior linebacker had 13 tackles, two tackles for loss, a pass break up and an intercepti­on. He also ran the ball for 87 yards and a touchdown.

Aaron Davis | Glades Central

The junior wide receiver had nine receptions for 145 yards in a 14-7 win over Palm Beach Lakes.

Brandon Inniss | American Heritage

Inniss had a big game on Saturday, racking up 194 receiving yards and two scores on nine catches, but the Patriots fell to Port St. Lucie Treasure Coast.

Jacob Cashion | Boca Raton

The junior quarterbac­k went 14 for 23 for 196 yards and one passing touchdown and added 94 yards rushing and three more scores in the Bobcats’ 34-9 victory over Boynton Beach.

Blake Murphy | American Heritage

Murphy completed 18 of 25 passes for 245 yards and three touchdowns in the Patriots’ loss.

Jahtavious Gayle | John I. Leonard

The junior quarterbac­k completed 16 of 27 passes for 313 yards and three scores in a 35-7 win over Spanish River.

Brady Kelly | Calvary Christian

The Eagles’ senior quarterbac­k completed 21 of 30 passes for 297 yards and four touchdowns as Calvary Christian beat Pine Crest 35-0.

Charvison Joseph | John I. Leonard

The junior running back had 14 carries for 113 yards and a touchdown and added two catches for 20 yards and another score in the Lancers’ win.

Eric Trowbridge | Calvary Christian

Trowbridge was Calvary’s leading receiver on Friday, making eight catches for 122 yards and a score in their big win.

Mitri Nazaire | American Heritage-Delray

The senior running back ran for 139 yards in the Stallions’ road loss Lake City Columbia.

Tugg Hollandswo­rth | Calvary Christian

Hollandswo­rth also had a big game at receiver, making six catches for 87 yards and two touchdowns.

Matt Smiciklas | American Heritage-Delray

The senior athlete caught five passes for 53 yards and added seven tackles on defense in the Stallions’ 46-23 loss to Lake City Columbia.

Berton Venter | Calvary Christian

Venter had six tackles, two tackles for loss and half a sack in Calvary’s win over Pine Crest.

Jashon Benjamin | Pahokee

The junior running back had six carries for 101 yards and a score in a 28-21 Blue Devils victory over Wellington.

Kaj Baker | Somerset Academy

Baker, an eighth-grade running back, had 176 rushing yards and three touchdowns in Somerset Academy’s 23-21 win over North Broward Prep.

Nick Ianonne | Wellington

The senior linebacker had 10 tackles, a sack and a score in the Wolverines’ 28-21 loss to Pahokee.

Jayden Stephens | Somerset Academy

Stephens, a freshman, picked off two passes in Somerset Academy’s victory.

Ahmad Haston | Palm Beach Central

The junior quarterbac­k completed 23 or 30 passes for 298 yards and five touchdowns as the Broncos downed Forest Hill 47-19.
