‘SNL’ hosts win guest actor Emmys

Claire Foy, Courtney B. Vance, Maya Rudolph and Dave Chappelle won guest actor Emmys at Sunday’s creative arts awards ceremony.

On the drama series side, Foy was honored for “The Crown” and her reprisal of Queen Elizabeth II, the role that won her a lead actress Emmy in 2018. Vance won for his part in “Lovecraft Country.”

Rudolph and Chappelle earned comedy series guest acting trophies as hosts of “Saturday Night Live.” For Rudolph, it was a repeat of her victory in the category last year, also for “SNL.”

In the short-form comedy or drama series, the winners were J.B. Smoove for “Mapleworth Murders” and Keke Palmer for “Keke Palmer’s Turnt Up with the Taylors.”

The creative arts awards were presented in non-televised weekend ceremonies that will be part of a special Saturday on FXX. The awards are precursors to the main Emmy ceremony airing Sunday on CBS.

Lil Nas X, Bieber top VMAs:

Lil Nas X won video of the year for his song “Montero (Call Me By Your Name)” at Sundays MTV VMAs on a night that Justin Bieber triumphant­ly returned to the stage as a performer and as winner of the artist of the year. For his first VMAs performanc­e in six years, Bieber rappelled from the ceiling of New York City’s Barclays Center for a performanc­e of “Stay” with Kid LAROI and then his single “Ghost.”

The VMAs celebrated MTV’s 40th anniversar­y, mixing moments between early network stars like Cyndi Lauper and show opener Madonna with high-octane performanc­es by newer stars like Olivia

Rodrigo, Lil Nas X, Camila Cabello and Chloe.

Moments after Rodrigo performed her hit “good 4 u,” she collected the night’s first award for her hit song “Drivers License.” She later won best new artist.

Billie Eilish won the fan-voted video for good for her song “Your Power.” Eilish and Rosalia won best Latin video for their song “Lo Vas A Olvidar.” BTS won three awards, group of the year, best K-pop and song of summer for “Butter.”

Spears gets engaged: Britney Spears announced her engagement Sunday to her boyfriend, Sam Asghari, with an exuberant post displaying a diamond ring engraved with the word “lioness.” She wrote “I can’t (expletive) believe it!” with an Instagram video post where she winks, kisses a smiling Asghari on the cheek and answers “yes!” when he asks if she likes the ring.

The four-carat diamond ring is engraved inside the band with “lioness” because it’s his nickname for her, the company Forever Diamonds NY said in a statement.

The news comes days after Spears’ father filed

to end the court conservato­rship that has controlled the singer’s life and money for 13 years. Legally, Spears can get married, but the conservato­rship must approve it as with other major life decisions.

‘Happening’ tops Venice Film Festival: Audrey Diwan’s 1960s abortion drama “L’Evenement” (“Happening”) won the Golden Lion at the 78th Venice Internatio­nal Film Festival, while the runner-up honor went to Paolo Sorrentino’s semiautobi­ographical “The Hand of God.” Diwan’s film about a French college student who finds herself with an unwanted pregnancy was the unanimous choice from the prestigiou­s jury that included recent Oscar winners Bong Joon Ho and Chloe Zhao.
