Tom Cruise gets SpaceX sneak peek
Tom Cruise got a sneak preview of what it’s like to circle Earth in a SpaceX capsule.
Representatives for SpaceX’s first privately chartered flight revealed Friday that the actor took part in a call with the four space tourists orbiting more than 360 miles up. The recent conversation, like the entire three-day flight, was private and so no details were released.
“Maverick, you can be our wingman anytime,” came the announcement from the flight’s Twitter feed. Cruise starred as Navy pilot Pete “Maverick” Mitchell in the 1986 film “Top Gun.” A sequel is due out next year.
Last year, NASA confirmed it was in talks with Cruise about visiting the International Space Station for filming. SpaceX would provide the lift, as it does for NASA astronauts, and like it did Wednesday for the billionaire with his two contest winners and a hospital worker.
Burton drops ‘Jeopardy!’ host bid:
LeVar Burton is retiring his quest to become the next “Jeopardy!” host. On “The Daily Show With Trevor Noah,” Burton explained he’s no longer interested in the gig, which is now shared by Mayim Bialik and Ken Jennings after former executive producer Mike Richards’ firing.
“The crazy thing is that when you set your sights on something ... they say be careful of what you wish for, because what I found out is that it wasn’t the thing that I wanted after all,” Burton said. “What I wanted was to compete. I mean, I wanted the job, right, but then, when I didn’t get it, it was, like ‘Well, OK, what’s next?’ ”
The quiz show rotated through guest hosts after Alex Trebek’s death, and
Burton campaigned heavily for the position, quickly becoming a fan favorite.
Burton, who was a guest host on “Jeopardy!” in July, also hinted at another possible TV opportunity, telling host Trevor Noah, “We’re trying to figure out what the right game show for LeVar Burton would be.”
Craig chokes up after filming his final Bond scene:
Daniel Craig got emotional after filming his final scene as James Bond in the upcoming 007 adventure “No Time to Die,” which will be his final outing as the super spy and hits theaters Oct. 8.
The Apple TV documentary “Being James Bond” reflects on Craig’s career as the iconic character and shows Craig’s final scene while filming “No Time to Die.” The actor gave a touching speech after wrapping a late-night shoot, and the cast and crew teared up and shared
hugs with each other.
“A lot of people here worked on five pictures with me, and I know there’s a lot of things said about what I think about these films . ... But I’ve loved every single second of these movies, and especially this one because I’ve got up every morning and I’ve had the chance to work with you guys. And that has been one of the greatest honors of my life,” he said while holding back tears.
“Being James Bond” is free to rent on the Apple TV app through Oct. 7.
