MIAMI GARDENS — The Miami Hurricanes fell out of the AP Top 25 Poll that was released Sunday afternoon after Saturday’s 38-17 loss to Michigan State.

The drop from the AP Poll marked the first time since the 2021 preseason that the Hurricanes weren’t ranked. They also weren’t among the 19 teams outside of the Top 25 to receive a vote for the poll.

UM, which was ranked at No. 24 heading into Saturday, dropped in the AP Poll every week it was updated since the beginning of the season.

Miami (1-2) was ranked No. 14 in the AP Top 25 preseason poll before falling to top-ranked Alabama, 44-13, in the season opener to drop to No. 22. The Hurricanes fell two more spots, to No. 24, after their narrow 25-23 win over Appalachian State last week.

The Spartans (3-0), who weren’t ranked entering Saturday, jumped up to No. 20 in the rankings after their win.

No. 9 Clemson (2-1) and No. 21 North Carolina (2-1) were the only Atlantic Coast Conference programs to be in the Top 25 after their respective wins over Georgia Tech and Virginia on Saturday.

Virginia Tech (52), which was ranked at No. 15 last week before falling out of the Top 25 this weekend after its loss to West Virginia, Boston College (nine), Wake Forest (seven) and Louisville (one) were among the ACC teams who received votes for the poll but didn’t land in the Top 25.

UM will face Central Connecticut State, an FCS program, at 12:30 next Saturday at Hard Rock Stadium.
