Free beer, free barbecue, a free movie and a free concert
No one works harder to create environments that exude relaxation than Carley Sumner, founder of the Flamingo Flea, which brings dozens of local artists and makers back to Tarpon River Brewing in Fort Lauderdale noon-4 p.m. Sunday.
In organizing these markets, Sumner, 33, is curating commerce — she takes pride in the variety and quality of the shopping you’ll find — but also community, both the creatives and people looking for a certain local lifestyle vibe.
“It’s come out of a selfish reason, because it’s exactly what I would want to do on a Sunday,” says Sumner, a Broward County native. “It’s nothing too crazy in terms of volume of music or getting dressed up in something fancy. It’s just a good Sunday fun day. You have live music, brunch, shopping and friends. It’s just a good way to end the weekend.”
Along with Flamingo Flea, Sumner has opened a retail space at the Small Wine Shop in Flagler Village, where seven local makers fill seven shelves with their work Tuesday-Sunday on four-month residencies. In a couple of weeks, on Oct. 8, you’ll find Sumner hosting a section of the Music & Makers series, a nighttime feature at Las Olas Oceanside Park, which is flying a new flag as “the LOOP.” Music & Makers combines a pop-up shopping area in the beautifully renovated waterfront park with Friday Night Sound Waves, the long-running free weekly music series that begins its 2021 season on Oct. 8 with high-energy pop and R&B classics by ReaXtion Band. Date night
We’re not telling you what to do, but this Friday night’s free sundown screening of the songand-dance romance “La La Land ”at Las Olas Oceanside Park, uh, the LOOP, would make a fine centerpiece for an overnight date night in Fort Lauderdale’s under-discovered nightlife gem North Beach Village, which we recently explained in some detail. Art and barbecue
The new West Palm Beach art collective known as The Peach (3950 Georgia Ave.) makes its debut this weekend with a Friday-Sunday open house and telltale indicators of a quality scene under the umbrella of Rodney Mayo’s Sub-Culture Group. Located in a former autobody shop just north of Southern Boulevard, The Peach will have six art studios to tour during opening events 6-11 p.m. Friday-Saturday, 2-6 p.m. Sunday, plus free beer, wine and Troy’s BBQ while supplies last. There will be music by leading local acts including Sandman Sleeps and Eden Bear (Friday), Lavola and Dreambows (Saturday) and Matt Brown of the SoulFam collective (Sunday). Fugees in Miami
There are 12 stops on the longawaited reunion tour by legendary hip-hop group the Fugees — Ms. Lauryn Hill, Wyclef Jean and Pras Michel — and FTX Arena in Miami is one of them. Tickets for the Nov. 21 concert at the former AmericanAirlines Arena start at
$84 and go on sale 10 a.m. Friday at Ticketmaster.com. The trio’s first live shows in 15 years celebrate the 25th anniversary of the trio’s iconic 1996 album “The Score.” This may be the concert to see this season.

Scattered tickets remain ($89.50+) for critically lauded rapper J. Cole’s tour-opening concert 8 p.m. Friday at FTX Arena in Miami. The Off-Season Tour (21 Savage opens) supports J. Free concert
For a taste of pure South Florida, try a little Cortadito, the traditional Cuban folk band who play a free concert 7 p.m. Saturday at Hollywood ArtsPark on Young Circle in downtown Hollywood, joined by Grammy winners Nestor Torres and Federico Britos, plus two-time Grammy nominee Sammy Figueroa.
