Chiefs coach Reid leaves hospital

-

Chiefs coach Andy Reid was released from the hospital Monday after he felt ill and was taken by ambulance to be treated for dehydration following their 30-24 loss to the Chargers the previous day.

Chiefs spokesman Ted Crews said that Reid was “in great spirits” and that he planned to visit the practice facility early this week. In the meantime, the Chiefs spent the day breaking down film and going through their normal Monday meetings with coordinators Steve Spagnuolo, Eric Bieniemy and Dave Toub in charge.

Reid coached the duration of the game Sunday, which was played in unseasonably warm temperatures that topped 90 degrees. He also addressed the team in the locker room afterward, then was examined by the Chiefs medical staff before the decision was made to send him to The University of Kansas Hospital for testing and observation.

The 63-year-old Reid is expected to coach Sunday when the Chiefs travel to Philadelphia to take the Eagles.

Reid coached the Eagles from 1999 through 2012.

Bears coach Matt Nagy said that all three QBs — rookie Justin Fields and veterans Andy Dalton and Nick Foles — are under consideration to start this week’s game against Lions. Colleges: Former Florida women’s basketball coach Cam Newbauer verbally abused players, assistants and staff members, creating a toxic environment that athletic department officials seemingly failed to fix for years, The Independent Florida Alligator reported. The Alligator, a student-run paper not affiliated with the university, spoke to several former players and some of their parents. Newbauer “resigned” in mid-July for “personal reasons,” a stunning move that came six weeks after he signed a three-year contract extension. His departure came two days after leading scorer Lavender Briggs entered the transfer portal. Briggs returned to Florida after AD Scott Stricklin named Kelly Rae Finley interim head coach for the 2021-22 season. Newbauer, 43, went 46-71 overall and 15-47 in SEC play, including three three-win conference seasons in four years at Florida.

NBA: The Nuggets and F Michael Porter Jr. agreed to a five-year designated maximum extension that could be worth between $172 million and $207 million, ESPN reported. Porter, 23, averaged 19.0 points and 7.3 rebounds last season.

Soccer: UEFA has been forced to abandon its attempt to ban Super League clubs Barcelona, Juventus and Real Madrid from the Champions League due to court action over the governing body’s attempt to punish the rebellion. A Spanish court injunction in June led to UEFA pausing the disciplinary case against the clubs who refused to renounce the project which collapsed in April. A renewed demand last week from a Madrid judge for UEFA officials to comply with the ruling not to sanction the clubs led to the disciplinary case being scrapped.
