Warren R. Tompkins, 95, a U.S. Navy veteran of World War II and the Korean War and longtime Boca Raton resident, died peacefully on Friday, Nov. 12 in the presence of his three children. Mr. Tompkins was born in Staten Island, N.Y. to F. Laird Tompkins, a department store merchant, and the former Shirley Wood, a nurse originally from Australia. He attended Curtis High School and Wagner College and, following the U.S.

entry into World War II, enrolled in an accelerate­d officer cadet program. Upon receiving his commission, Mr. Tompkins was assigned to the Pacific theater, serving aboard the escort carrier U.S.S. Core and other vessels. Leaving active duty as a Lt. Commander following the end of the Korean conflict, he relocated to Tulsa, Okla. where he married Dorothy Spurlock and began a long and successful career as an executive in the banking, petroleum, insurance and car rental industries. He moved with his family to Boca Raton in 1971. He is remembered as a gentle and kind-hearted man with a fondness for cats, military history and home renovation. He was an avid contributo­r to veterans and

children’s charities throughout his life. He is survived by his children, Wayne Tompkins, Richard Tompkins and Vicky Fitzsimmon­s (Eric) and grandson Nathan Fitzsimmon­s, all of Boca Raton, two nephews and four nieces. He is pre-deceased by his wife Dorothy, brother Robert Tompkins and sister Barbara Tompkins McClurg. At the decedent’s request, no services are pending. His ashes will be spread at sea.
