Former MLS star Lassiter’s son gotten
Inter Miami acquired 27-year-old attacker Ariel Lassiter from the Houston Dynamo in exchange for $100,000 in general allocation money Thursday.
During his tenure with Houston, Lassiter competed in 35 contests, totaling 1,485 minutes played. In the condensed 2020 season, the Turrialba, Costa Riva native netted three goals and recorded one assist in 16 appearances.
Before reaching Houston, Lassiter — the son of former MLS great Roy Lassiter — made his MLS debut in 2015 and spent four years with the Los Angeles Galaxy organization (2015-18). Throughout his MLS career, Lassiter has tallied four goals and one assist in the 60 outings he has played in.
Roy Lassiter, who was a member of the Miami Fusion in 2000, played in MLS from 19962002 and retired with a then-record 88 career goals.
“We’re excited to continue strengthening the squad ahead of our 2022 season with the signing of Ariel [Lassiter],” Inter Miami chief soccer officer and sporting director Chris Henderson said in a media release.
“He has the ability to stretch teams with his quickness and pace and looks to get behind to create scoring opportunities,” Henderson added. “He comes from a soccer family, brings good character to the club and we believe he can be a good fit to our team. We look forward to seeing him help us achieve our goals in the upcoming campaign.”
Following the 2018 season with the Galaxy, Lassiter returned to Costa Rica, playing three seasons with the country’s top-flight side, Liga Deportiva Alajuelense. Orchestrating a breakout campaign, the winger managed to rack up 24 goals and 16 assists in only 65 appearances. He helped Liga Deportiva Alajuelense reach the final in the 2019 Torneo Apertura and the 2020 Torneo Clausura.
On the international stage, Lassiter has made 17 appearances for the Costa Rican men’s national team. He also attended the University of Cal Poly San Luis Obispo, earning Big-West Conference All-Freshman team honors in his lone season with the Mustangs.
