Man threatens ‘voodoo curse’ on sexual battery victim, police say

- By Chris Perkins

CORAL SPRINGS — A Coral Springs man suspected of sexual battery showed his victim a wedding band, told her he loved her, and then showed her a voodoo altar and threatened to put a curse on her and her family if she told anyone about the encounter, officials said.

A second sexual battery victim also told police the man was “using voodoo.”

Stanley Jeanty was arrested Tuesday by the Coral Springs police Special Victims Unit and charged with two counts of sexual battery.

The alleged attacks took place in September and October with different women, according to the arrest affidavit.

Jeanty is well-known in the Haitian community and has ties to the Coral Springs and Margate areas, according to police.

The most recent victim was approached by Jeanty at a bus stop and offered a ride home, the arrest report said. She initially refused but felt more comfortable when Jeanty began speaking to her in Creole. Jeanty told her he worked for Spirit Airlines and could help her get a job, the report said.

Eventually they went to Jeanty’s apartment, which is where the sexual battery occurred, the report said.

The woman said Jeanty took a picture of her while she was naked, threatened to “use” the picture and then told her, “Don’t do anything stupid.”

Both victims said Jeanty told them he recorded the episode using a video camera mounted on a nightstand.

Coral Springs police said Jeanty’s pattern of behavior escalated over the months to include strangers and his “predatory nature towards vulnerable females is concerning to the public safety.”
