Hurricanes safety Bolden declares for NFL draft
Miami Hurricanes safety Bubba Bolden has declared his intention to enter the upcoming NFL draft, he announced on Twitter.
Bolden, who will forgo his final year of eligibility, caps off his three-year career with the Hurricanes, having appeared in 23 games since transferring from USC.
The redshirt junior had 42 tackles, 3.5 tackles for loss, one sack and two pass deflections in seven games last season.
Bolden suffered a shoulder injury following the Hurricanes’ game against Virginia in September, managing to play through it for two games before requiring season-ending surgery after UM’s matchup against North Carolina State.
Bolden delivered his best season in 2020, when he finished as a Jim Thorpe Award semifinalist and was named an All-ACC second-team honoree. The Las Vegas native racked up 50 tackles, 6.5 tackles for loss, four forced fumbles, four pass deflections, one interception and a sack.
He concludes his collegiate career with 135 tackles, 10 tackles for loss, five forced fumbles, eight pass deflections, two interceptions and two sacks.
With Bolden departing, the Hurricanes’ safety room will be led by freshmen Kameron Kinchens, James Williams and Avantae Williams.
Kinchens, a Miami Northwestern graduate, finished fourth on the team in tackles (44) this season while also compiling four pass breakups and one forced fumble. James Williams, a former five-star recruit out of American Heritage, led the Hurricanes in interceptions (2) and also recorded 31 tackles and two pass breakups.
Avantae Williams, who missed six games due to a suspension, compiled 18 tackles and one interception.
