NBA All-Star Game reserves announced

The reserves for the NBA All-Star Game on Feb. 19 in Salt Lake City were announced Thursday night.

From the Eastern Conference, it was Joel Embiid (76ers), Bam Adebayo (Heat), Tyrese Haliburton (Pacers), Jaylen Brown (Celtics), DeMar DeRozan (Bulls), Jrue Holiday (Bucks) and Julius Randle (Knicks).

From the Western Conference, the picks were Shai Gilgeous-Alexander (Thunder), Damian Lillard (Trail Blazers), Ja Morant (Grizzlies), Jaren Jackson Jr. (Grizzlies), Lauri Markkanen (Jazz), Domantas Sabonis (Kings) and Paul George (Clippers).

The reserves are selected by the 30 NBA head coaches, who each cast ballots for seven players from their own conference.

The 14 reserves join this pool of starters: team captains LeBron James (Lakers) and Giannis Antetokoun­mpo (Bucks), Kevin Durant (Nets), Kyrie Irving (Nets), Donovan Mitchell (Cavaliers), Jayson Tatum (Celtics),

Stephen Curry (Warriors), Luka Doncic (Mavericks), Nikola Jokic (Nuggets) and Zion Williamson (Pelicans).

College football: North Carolina coach Mack Brown, 71, agreed to a one-year contract extension tthrough the 2027 season. The financial terms are the same from the extension he received a year ago, which included a new salary of $5 million per season.

Golf: Hank Lebioda shot a first-round 8-under 63 for a one-stroke lead at the Pebble Beach Pro-Am in Calif. The 29-year-old Lebioda, who’s never won on the PGA Tour, opened play on the Monterey Peninsula course.

NFL: Chiefs QB Patrick Mahomes expects to practice fully in the days leading up to the Super Bowl against the Eagles. Mahomes sprained his right ankle during the divisional round against the Jaguars, and was clearly hobbled in Sunday night’s AFC championsh­ip victory over the Bengals, but said he’s feeling fine.
