5-star WR Trader commits to ’Canes

- By Adam Lichtenstein

The Hurricanes added a major weapon to their 2024 recruiting class Thursday night.

Chaminade-Madonna five-star wide receiver Joshisa Trader committed to Miami, announcing his choice on social media.

Trader, the highest-rated prospect in UM’s class, picked the Hurricanes over Florida, Florida State, Georgia and Ohio State, among others. The Hurricanes have not signed a five-star wide receiver since signing Lance Leggett in 2004

The Lions standout is rated the No. 3 athlete and No. 25 player in the 2024 class by 247Sports’ composite rankings.

Trader was a Super 11 pick and a firstteam Sun Sentinel All-County selection as a junior. He had 743 receiving yards and seven touchdowns last season.

Trader, who is listed at 6-foot-1 and 175 pounds, continues a tradition of top Chaminade players staying close to home and playing for the Hurricanes.

Miami currently has two former Lions on the roster: cornerback Te’Cory Couch and linebacker Keontra Smith. Former Chaminade stars Thad Franklin Jr. and Allan Haye Jr. played for UM last year but transferred in the offseason.

Trader previously played for Miami Central and Miami Monsignor Pace.

The Lions have a highly touted receiving corps that includes Trader and fellow five-star prospect Jeremiah Smith, who is committed to Ohio State — though the Hurricanes staff would like to flip him to their class.

The Hurricanes currently have one other wide receiver committed in the 2024 class: four-star St. Thomas Aquinas standout Chance Robinson.

Fellow Hurricanes commits and coaches celebrated Trader’s choice on social media.

“How about them Canes!” offensive line commit Juan Minaya posted.
