No expanded tax credits

Regarding the Aug. 25 letter “Expand the Earned Income Tax Credit,” while I am empathetic to the plight of the impoverished childless workers in south Florida, supplementing their income with a tax credit is not the way to go.

Akin to the tip jar, where retail workers receive tips for doing what they’re supposed to do, after 40 years as a CPA, I believe these ploys are simply a way of allowing employers to pay lower wages and keep those employees happier in their lowpaying jobs.

If you want those higher paying jobs, educate yourselves, get off your phones and stop playing video games. Tax credits will not make your life easier in the long run. Hard work will never have a substitute.
