Express lane work affects I-95, I-75 and turnpike
There is a lot of express lane-related work planned this week on South Florida’s highways, according to the Florida Department of Transportation.
HOV lanes: There are no longer any high-occupancy vehicle or carpool lanes on Interstate-95 in Broward County. Drivers can sail along solo without fear of being ticketed because those lanes between Broward Boulevard in Fort Lauderdale and Southwest 10th Street in Deerfield Beach are being converted into express lanes. Overnight construction wraps up about 5:30 each morning, Monday through Thursday.
I-95 express lane poles: Northbound and southbound express lanes will be closed as needed from 10 p.m. Wednesday to 5 a.m. Thursday between the Golden Glades Interchange and Interstate-595 for plastic pole repairs. Driver should use the non-tolled general use lanes during that time.
Turnpike Extension interchange: The next phase of the Florida Turnpike Extension and Interstate 75 interchange gears up with the overnight closures of the northbound Turnpike lanes, between 12 a.m. and 5:30 a.m. Monday through Thursday.
Flyover bridges are being installed between the Turnpike and what will be the I-75 express lanes. Because that stretch of the Turnpike Extension flows eastbound, drivers will be detoured off the Turnpike at I-75 north to the Miramar Parkway exit, then along Miramar Parkway to rejoin the Turnpike at Red Road / Northwest 57 Avenue.
In all cases, detours will be marked and work schedules could change because of poor weather or other unforeseen delays, the state said.
