Two bystanders and a physician were among the first to find Roger Trindade laying unconscious in downtown Winter Park before the 15-year-old died of his injuries Monday.

The Winter Park Police Department, which is investigating the case as a suspicious death, released on Friday three 911 calls from the incident.

“There’s some kid who’s been passed out for ... I don’t know how long,” a woman told the dispatcher on Saturday, shouting back to others who were looking for Roger’s pulse. “It’s bad.” Some commotion can be heard in the background.

Another woman who called said she found the boy in the park alongside the main shopping drag, across from the Italian restaurant Prato. The boy was near the fountain and the Winter Park SunRail station, she said.

“There are kids who are fighting, and one of them is on the ground,” the woman told dispatchers. “They were physically fighting but the other party left, and then there’s a kid on the ground.”

A doctor who happened upon the scene said he would stay with the boy until paramedics arrived. He said he thought the boy fainted.

Roger, a junior at Winter Park High School, was rushed to the hospital, where he was declared brain dead. He was taken off life support Monday.

Roger’s cause of death remains unclear and won’t be determined until further toxicology tests by the Orange-Osceola Medical Examiner’s Office come back, which could take several weeks.

His body showed few signs of external trauma, complicating the case.

Police have identified those involved in the fight — other juvenile classmates from Winter Park High — but have not arrested anyone.

Trindade moved from Novo Hamburgo in southern Brazil to Central Florida last year.
