- Staff reports

Some of the best high school basketball teams in Florida will be featured at the annual Kreul Showcase on Friday and Saturday at Monarch High in Coconut Creek. With three defending FHSAA State Champions among the 20 teams competing, in addition to various Division 1 commitments, the showcase will have no shortage of local talent on display. “This two-day event was added in 2014 to provide increased exposure for South Florida teams to demonstrate the exceptional level of basketball our local coaches are working tirelessly to develop,” Kreul Classic director Jim Reilly said. Coral Springs, Blanche Ely and Fort Lauderdale Dillard are the defending state champions highlighting the talented teams playing in the 10-game showcase. Division 1 commitments set to compete include Sagemont’s Tyler Polley (Connecticut), Dillard’s Raiquan Gray (Florida State), Anthony Polite from St. Andrew’s (Florida State), Miami Country Day’s Ibrahim Doumbia (South Carolina) and Fort Lauderdale’s Jeffrey Prophete (Towson). Featured underclassmen include University School’s Balsa Koprivika and Vernon Carey Jr., as well as Zack Scott from Westminster Academy. After more than 25 years of hosting the successful Kreul Classic tournament, officials from the organization felt another event would help bring even more exposure to the numerous talented basketball teams and players in the area. “We truly believe that Florida basketball is among the best in the nation so we do our best to provide competitive and convenient opportunities for colleges coaches to view our kids,” Reilly said. “The main goal is to get as many kids playing at the next level as possible because in most cases that means they are getting their education paid for.” 2016 Kreul Showcase Schedule: Friday, Dec. 2 Monarch vs. Coral Springs Christian 4 p.m. Coral Springs vs. Nova 5:30 p.m. Deerfield Beach vs. Archbishop Carroll 7:15 p.m. Blanche Ely vs. Miami Norland 8:45 p.m. Saturday, Dec. 3 Cypress Bay vs. Gulliver (Miami) 1:30 p.m. Ft.
