Boca Bowl coach clear on role
Western Kentucky interim coach understands his responsibilities entering the Boca Raton Bowl against Memphis on Dec. 20 will be different. No longer will he simply be the Hilltoppers’ defensive coordinator.
Instead, he’ll have to make some larger decisions, perhaps including what will Western Kentucky do if it wins the pregame coin toss?
“That’s really easy, we’re going to take the ball,” Holt said in Boca Raton on Tuesday. “We always do. We’re going to be aggressive.”
Holt inherits the interim coach tag after former Hilltoppers coach
left WKU to accept Purdue’s head coaching job. Brohm led the Western Kentucky program for three seasons, going 30-10, including Conference USA championships in the past two seasons. The Hilltoppers are 10-3 and 7-1 in Conference USA this year.
For Western Kentucky, searching for a new coach is familiar. Its success led to getting plucked from WKU for the USF job and then ultimately to Oregon.

Both Memphis and Western Kentucky will arrive in Boca Raton on Dec. 16 and practice at local high schools the next two days. Memphis will practice at Oxbridge Academy and Western Kentucky will be at Saint Andrew’s School.
The Boca Raton Bowl is played at FAU Stadium and kickoff is set for 7 p.m.
