Run ‘D’ not major concern

-

Joseph is aware his run defense ranks 30th in the NFL at 133.8 yards allowed per game. But he’s willing to make concessions.

“In this league, you score points by throwing the football,” he said, “so if we can maintain our pass defense, our third downs and our pass rush, we can win games.”

The Dolphins rank 10th in pass defense, No. 1 in third down defense (33.9 percent) and are tied for 15th in sacks (28).

The run defense has languished near the bottom of the league statistically all season. Ten of the Dolphins’ 13 opponents have rushed for more than 100 yards.

Regardless, the Dolphins have won seven of their past eight games and remain in the thick of the AFC playoff picture.

The Jets might be without running back Matt

Forte (972 yards, seven touchdowns) Saturday. He revealed earlier this week he has torn meniscus in his right knee. But Forte’s backup, Bilal Powell, rushed for 145 yards last week against San Francisco in his absence. The Jets rank 10th in the NFL in rushing at 111.4 yards per game.

“I’m not overly concerned about the run defense, because it’s been pretty good the last month and a half,” Joseph said. “Honestly, it has been. The numbers may not speak to that, but it has been good enough to win games.

“Obviously, run defense, if you’re really good, you like it. If you’re not, if you’re not good at it, you don’t worry yourself about it. You kind of contain it the best you can.”
