Fishing report
SOUTH FLORIDA OFFSHORE Capt. Skip Dana, of the Helen S and Fish City Pride drift boats at Hillsboro Inlet Marina, said anglers on the boats have enjoyed a “great snapper bite.” Some kingfish and dolphin have been caught. Sailfish have been scarce, but that should improve as winds are forecast to be 15-20 knots out of the east and southeast Friday through Sunday.
THE KEYS
Richard Stanczyk said boats at Bud N’ Mary’s Marina in Islamorada were catching good numbers of big yellowtail snappers. Sailfish and some kingfish were biting along the reef and anglers deep-dropping offshore had swordfish up to 300 pounds, queen snappers and barrelfish.
SOUTH FLORIDA INSHORE
Snook and redfish were biting in Everglades National Park, although the bugs around the islands have been bad. Lots of Spanish mackerel were biting around shallow wrecks and banks on the outskirts of the park and in the Gulf of Mexico.
EVERGLADES/FRESHWATER
Capt. Alan Zaremba, of Hollywood, said fly fishing with Clouser minnows was producing peacock bass 5-7 pounds in Miami’s urban canals. Smaller peacocks and largemouth bass were biting hard jerkbaits and topwater plugs.
LAKE OKEECHOBEE
Bass were biting plastic jerkbaits, stick worms and swim jigs.
