Police seek suspect for armed robbery
When Melinda Cartwright and her daughter returned home from a trip to the movies Sunday night, a car pulled up behind theirs in the driveway and a man pointed a gun at her 18-year-old daughter’s head, authorities said.
Police on Tuesday released a sketch of one of the two armed robbers who targeted Cartwright and her daughter Lindesy outside their home in the 500 block of Northwest 159th Lane, in the Towngate community in Pembroke Pines.
The man holding a silver revolver said, “Give me money, give me all of it,” in a thick accent. He took the women’s bags and iPhones, as well as Melinda Cartwright’s car keys and credit cards, according to an incident report.
The man ran back to the car, which police describe as a small black SUV, and the robbers sped out of the community.
The gunman is described as 5-foot-7, between 150 and 160 pounds, with a slim build, unkempt hair and a beard. He appears to be 20 to 25 years old, police said.
When reached by phone Tuesday afternoon, Cartwright did not want to comment on the incident.
Police said they consider the robbery an isolated incident, but a neighbor told investigators a dark-colored car followed her home earlier that night. The neighbor, Pearl Laughton, told investigators she saw the car park a few houses away and then back out toward her home, so she went inside.
