Hollandsworth joins TV team

- By Craig Davis Staff writer

The Marlins and Fox Sports Florida have scrapped the television-analystby-committee approach after one season and hired former major leaguer Todd Hollandsworth as their fulltime color commentator.

An outfielder on the Marlins’ 2003 World Series championship team, Hollandsworth will join playby-play announcer Rich Waltz in the booth this season.

Hollandsworth spent the past seven seasons as a pregame and postgame analyst covering the Cubs for Comcast SportsNet Chicago. Since 2014, he’s also served as co-host on MLB Network Radio’s “The Leadoff Spot” show on SiriusXM.

“We are thrilled to have Todd join our Marlins broadcast booth this upcoming season,” said Steve Telleo, Fox Sports Florida senior vice president and general manager. “Todd returns to South Florida with a wealth of baseball expertise, and we believe his unique perspectives and experience in both television and radio will bring exciting color commentary to our Marlins telecasts.”

The Marlins used four color commentators last season — Eduardo Perez, Al Leiter, Preston Wilson and Jeff Conine — after mainstay Tommy Hutton was dropped after 19 seasons. The team and network prefer to have one voice alongside Waltz, who will be returning for his 13th season, a Fox Sports spokesman said.

Perez was working around his primary duties with ESPN, and Leiter is also a studio analyst for MLB Network and a color commentator for the YES Network covering the Yankees.

“I’m grateful for the opportunity to join the FOX Sports Florida team, and I look forward to bringing my passion and enthusiasm for the game of baseball to the Miami Marlins fan base,” said Hollandsworth (@hollytime28 on Twitter). “They are a great young team, and I look forward to covering them beginning this season.”
