Fishing report

-

SOUTH FLORIDA OFFSHORE “The kings have been biting good, along with a handful of sailfish,” said Capt. Skip Dana of the Helen S and Fish City Pride drift boats at Hillsboro Inlet Marina, who added that an extremely strong current Thursday slowed fishing. “The night bite on the drift boats has been really good for yellowtail and mutton snappers.” Capt. Mario Coté of Hollywood said his anglers on No Vacansea caught kingfish, yellowtails, yellow jacks and some cero mackerel this week. Capt. Chris Lemieux of Boynton Beach said plenty of kingfish 5-10 pounds were biting in 70-100 feet, along with a few big kings up to 39 pounds. Vermilion snappers were biting in 180-240 feet, along with a few red groupers.

THE KEYS

“Kingfish showed up this week, the best in a couple of years that we have seen,” said Richard Stanczyk of Bud N’ Mary’s Marina in Islamorada, adding that some kings up to 30 pounds were caught. A few dolphin fish and tuna were on the edge. A 66-pound cobia was caught Thursday.
