Fish regulations: New rules take effect Jan.1 for several saltwater species. The mutton snapper minimum size limit will be 18 inches, and the recreational bag limit will be five fish per person within the 10-fish snapper aggregate bag limit in state waters. There will be a recreational and commercial slot limit of 15 to 36 inches fork length for barracuda in state and federal waters off Collier, Monroe, Miami-Dade, Broward, Palm Beach and Martin counties. One fish larger than 36 inches per vessel may be kept. The bag limits remain two fish per person and six per vessel. Visit myfwc.com/fishing.

Bass tournament: The Everglades Bassmasters of South Florida has a One Largemouth Bass Open Tournament, Hangover Edition, Jan. 1 on Lake Okeechobee out of Roland Martin’s Marina in Clewiston. Registration starts at 6 a.m. at the bait shop. Fishing is 7 a.m. to 1 p.m. Entry fee is $20 per person, and boats can have as many anglers as they can legally carry. Payback is 100 percent.
