South Florida schools’ winter break is almost here, and there are plenty of diversions to keep families busy during the twoweek vacation.

Here are some of the top attraction­s for families in South Florida throughout the winter holidays. Miami Internatio­nal Children’s Film Festival

Dec. 24-29. Families can enjoy premieres of new films from around the world, parties, hands-on workshops for children, meet-the-filmmakers events and more. Family Fun on the Plaza is scheduled Dec. 24-25 in front of the Gables Cinema with face-painting, balloon animals, live music, food and more. See more than half a million bright, animal-shaped lights and tree lights at Zoo Miami from 7 to 10 p.m. nightly. Gulfstream’s Symphony of Lights features a 50-foot tree decorated with thousands of lights synchroniz­ed to holiday music, and an array of free entertainm­ent, from 6 to 10 p.m., including train rides Dec. 23-24. Through Jan. 3. Explore the world of our inner microorgan­isms through interactiv­e and bilingual exhibits and discover who our constant microbial companions are, where they live, how diverse they are, and how important they are to our personal health.
