Boca, Cypress Bay set for Florida Prospects

Boca Raton and Cypress Bay will be among a handful of girls basketball squads representi­ng Broward and Palm Beach counties at this year’s Florida Prospects Invitation­al.

The ninth annual tournament, which features 48 teams competing across six divisions, will be played at three different locations today through Saturday — Apopka and Wekiva high schools and the Orlando Downtown Recreation Complex.

The Platinum Division, which will be played at the Orlando rec center at 363 N. Parramore Ave., features three Palm Beach teams. The top half of the bracket has Florida Class 9A’s topranked Boca Raton (11-1) against Bartow at 1:30 p.m. and, at 4:30, Northeast (3-6) taking on Orlando West Orange. Oxbridge (12-0) vs. Ocala West Port tips off at 3 p.m. in the bracket’s lower half.

The Downtown Rec Complex also hosts the Silver bracket, which will feature Broward County’s Cypress Bay (11-3) taking on Jacksonvil­le First Coast at noon Thursday.

Suncoast (10-3) is the lone representa­tive from PBC in the tournament’s Gold Division as the Chargers await Orlando Dr. Phillips on Thursday at 6 p.m. at Apopka High School.

Apopka High also is the site for Florida Prospects’ Bronze bracket, where Palm Beach Central will host Orlando Christian Prep at 1:30 Thursday.

Semifinal action takes place Friday afternoon and evening, and championsh­ip games will be played at each site on Saturday. The finales for the Silver, Bronze and Copper divisions tip off at 6 p.m. Title games in the Platinum, Diamond and Gold brackets get underway at 7:30 p.m.

Daily admission is $10. A hopper pass is available for $35 for unlimited access to all three locations.
