Man accused of Trump threats has history of legal run-ins

A Broward man accused of threatening to kill or harm President-elect Donald Trump has a long history of alcohol abuse and hassling family and friends, state records show.

Kevin Keith Krohn, 59, will remain jailed after a brief appearance Thursday in federal court in Fort Lauderdale. He agreed not to seek release during the court hearing.

“I believe so ... it’s not in my best interest,” Krohn told U.S. Magistrate Judge Patrick Hunt when the judge asked if that was what he wanted to do.

Krohn’s lawyer, Assistant Federal Public Defender Robert Berube, told the judge Krohn was agreeing to remain jailed for now. He could still request a bond hearing in the future.

Krohn was arrested one week ago at his Pembroke Pines home after U.S. Secret Service agents said he made threats against Trump in Facebook comments he posted online.

“I’m just glad Obama didn’t take all our gunz! I see a good use for one now,” Krohn wrote above a picture of Trump that read, “He’s not my president / He’s an enemy of the state,” agents wrote in court records.

The remarks were posted in a thread of comments related to Trump’s holiday season stay at his Palm Beach home, according to court records.

Agents said Krohn posted another comment that read: “The EXPEDITER of Trump! He will never last long!” above a picture of a man in camouflage holding a scoped sniper rifle.

When a Facebook user asked what he meant, agents said Krohn wrote: “Keep yer eyes open!”

Broward court records show Krohn has an extensive history of arrests and civil complaints against him in Broward County on allegations including stalking, drug and driving offenses and failing to pay more than $13,000 in child support arrears. He was sentenced to two stints in state prison — 10 years for a 1983 drug offense and two years in 2001 for a probation violation linked to a 1998 conviction for driving with a suspended license, records show.

Family members who obtained restraining orders against him in 2015 and 2016 wrote in court records that Krohn had an ongoing problem with alcohol abuse. After he was evicted from his mother’s Fort Lauderdale home in 2009, his siblings filed court documents stating that he had threatened to burn down the house and “terrorized” them and neighbors for years. One sister obtained a restraining order after she said he repeatedly showed up at the Fort Lauderdale house, got in a scuffle and pulled a knife on a family friend, then defecated in the driveway before leaving.

Krohn could face a federal charge of threatening to take the life of the president-elect or inflect bodily harm. The maximum punishment is five years in federal prison and a $250,000 fine. He has not yet been formally charged but was arrested and jailed on the allegations. Trump was at his Palm Beach estate, Mara-Lago, at the time of the alleged threats.
