American Heritage star rescinds Mississippi pledge

Perkinston, Miss., a village of roughly 8,000 in the southern depths of the state, has attracted a big-time college football prospect out of South Florida in recent weeks.

Torrance Gibson, a 2014 All-American out of American Heritage who’d moved from quarterback to receiver at Ohio State, on Dec. 13 signed with Mississippi Gulf Coast Community College in Perkinston, then quickly rescinded that pledge.

Ohio State suspended Gibson for the fall semester over student code violations said to be unrelated to the football team.

Though some speculate the 6-foot-4, 205-pound Gibson will return to the Buckeye fold and re-enroll for spring classes in Columbus, rumors also have tied him to Cincinnati, where it’s possible he could transfer and, given the NCAA’s One-Tme Transfer Exception rule, play immediately without eligibility being an issue.
