Scott to defend at Honda Classic

Olazabal to make Champions debut

Honda Classic defending champion Adam Scott has committed to playing in this year’s tournament, which is Feb. 23-26 on the Champion course at PGA National Resort & Spa in Palm Beach Gardens.

Ranked seventh in the Official World Golf Ranking, Scott joins an announced field that includes Tiger Woods, Masters champion Danny Willett, Paul Casey, Justin Rose, Brooks Koepka, Zach Johnson and two-time Honda champion Padraig Harrington (2005 and 2015).

Also set to play are past Honda winners Russell Henley, Luke Donald, Rory Sabbatini and Stuart Appleby, plus major champions Stewart Cink, Jason Dufner, Retief Goosen and Graeme McDowell.

Scott won the tournament last year by one shot over Sergio Garcia with a final-round 70 for a fourround total of 9-under-par 271. He followed his Honda win with a victory the following week in the WGCCadilla­c Championsh­ip at Trump National Doral, which is no longer being played.

Jose Maria Olazabal will make his PGA Tour Champions debut at the Allianz Championsh­ip Feb. 10-12 at the Old Course at Broken Sound in Boca Raton.

Olazabal, who turned 50 on Feb. 5, 2016, but has not played a senior event, will be joined by fellow Spaniard Angel Miguel Jimenez.

The 53-year-old Jimenez has played in 21 Champions events over the previous three years and has three wins, four seconds and 14 top 10s, and has earned nearly $2.5 million.
