Shivers, McKay highlight All-State picks
Chaminade-Madonna’s Shaun Shivers and Pahokee’s Rodney McKay highlight a group of 26 local players selected to the Associated Press’ All-State teams for Classes 1A-4A.
The two running backs — who earned Small School Player of the Year honors from the Sun Sentinel in their respective counties — earned first-team honors in their respective classes in statewide media voting.
All-State teams for Classes 5A-8A will be announced later this week.
McKay was one of three Pahokee players to land on the Class 1A first team, along with receiver Tyron Arnett and offensive lineman B.J. Crawford. Blue Devils quarterback Tyrone Smith and kicker Ezekiel Hernandez were named to the second team, while cornerback Akeem Dent was honorable mention.
In Class 2A, Village Academy linebacker Brian Bureau was the only local player to earn first-team honors. Village offensive lineman Cyril Spells was a secondteam selection, while Glades Day linebacker Markens Pierre landed on honorable mention.
In Class 3A, ChaminadeMadonna defensive end Chris Whittaker joined Shivers on first team. Lions quarterback Henry Colombi and receiver Xavier Williams, who committed to Alabama this week, were second-team picks.
Chaminade receiver Josh Ali was an honorable mention.
Oxbridge Academy racked up three first-team selections in 3A — offensive lineman Robert Holmes, defensive tackle Tyler Williams and cornerback Keidron Smith. Cardinal Newman linebacker Carson Powell earned second-team honors.
Newman linebacker Austin Basille and Benjamin quarterback Jordan Travis were honorable mention.
In Class 4A, North Broward Prep receiver Austin Wilson and Calvary Christian linebacker Diego Fagot both got first-team recognition.
University School had a trio of players land on honorable mention — quarterback George Bubrick, running back Kenny McIntosh and offensive lineman Noah Lieberman.
Glades Central quarterback James Blackman rounded out the locals on honorable mention.
