A driver was fatally shot in I-95 in Boynton Beach on Wednesday morning. Few details have been released so far, but deputies say it was a homicide.
Deputies are investigating a homicide after a driver was shot and killed on Interstate 95 in Boynton Beach.
Authorities haven’t released the name of the man killed or what led up to the shooting. It happened around 11:20 a.m. Wednesday near a southbound ramp at Interstate 95 and Gateway Boulevard.
That’s where Boynton Beach Police found a white SUV crashed into a barrier. The driver had been shot. There was a bullet hole in the windshield of the SUV.
Around the same time, Florida Highway Patrol troopers headed to a scene about 3 miles north on I-95 northbound just north of Lantana Road.
Sun Sentinel news partner WPEC-Ch. 12 reported that a black BMW was found at that scene, its rear windshield riddled with bullets. No one was hit. The driver stayed at the scene, authorities said.
What caused the shooting remains unclear but the two incidents are related, according to the Palm Beach Sheriff’s Office, which is leading the investigation.
Deputies are searching for the suspect in the fatal shooting. He was a passenger in a small gray SUV driven by another man, authorities said.
Deputies ask anyone who might have seen anything to call Detective Joe Greco at 561-688-4054 or Crime Stoppers at 1-800-458-8477.
