Remains identified as 54-year-old woman reported missing in January
The Broward Sheriff ’s Office on Friday identified Theresa Anne Seavey, 54, of Fort Lauderdale, as the person whose skeletal remains were found by searchers in a wooded area in Pompano Beach.
Seavey’s identity was released one week after deputies and officers from the Broward Sheriff’s Office, Palm Beach County Sheriff’s Office, Fort Lauderdale police and Miami-Dade police found the remains near West Copans Road and Blount Road, east of Florida’s Turnpike.
Seavey was last seen on Dec. 24, according to a missing persons report filed with the Fort Lauderdale Police Department. Her daughter reported her missing in January.
Seavey was homeless, but normally kept in touch with her daughter by cellphone and was accompanied by a service dog, the report said.
Seavey’s daughter told police her mother had several medical conditions: she had a pacemaker, was bipolar and had depression. She last picked up her medication two days before she disappeared.
A doctor’s office that was treating Seavey also reported her missing. According to the report, Seavey was getting medication through the doctor’s dispensary for pain management, infectious disease and late-stage chronic obstructive pulmonary disease.
Seavey was also participating in a medical trial, which required regular diary entries into the program’s database. Her last entry was on Dec. 31. It was sent through the smartphone she was given as part of the study, the report said.
The circumstances surrounding her disappearance were not immediately known. The remains will be further examined to determine the cause of death, officials said.
