CORAL GABLES — The Hurricanes hosted some of the state’s top high school football prospects on campus Saturday for one of their “Junior Day” events and as one might have expected, it turned in some good results.

Miami coach Mark Richt — who was celebrating his birthday Saturday — got verbal commitments from Miami Carol City teammates Randy Russell and Camron Davis, who both shared their decisions on Twitter.

“It’s a great feeling to know that my mom will not have to pay a DIME for my college tuition,” Russell wrote in an image he posted on Twitter. “Over the past months, I have developed great relationships with these men. I would like to thank all of my coaches, my teammates for pushing me to become the player I am today. I have decided that it would be best that I commit to the University of Miami.”

In a similar Twitter image, Davis wrote, “It’s a great feeling to have a full scholarship. Over the past months, I have developed great relationships with these men. I would like to thank my parents for being down for me. Without them, I wouldn’t be the man I am today. And I appreciate my coaches, my teammates, … and fans supporting me. I have decided that I have committed to the University of Miami.”

The 5-foot-10, 191-pound Davis is rated a four-star prospect by 247Sports.com, which also ranks him the 15th best running back in the nation. Russell, meanwhile, is rated a three-star safety.

With their announcements, the Hurricanes have secured 11 verbal commitments from 2018 prospects. The class also includes five-star running back prospect Lorenzo Lingard, a pair of four-star cornerbacks in Josh Jobe of Miami Columbus and Gilbert Frierson of Coral Gables. Four-star wide receiver Daquris Wiggins of Miami Southridge has also pledged to the Hurricanes’ 2018 class.

All 11 of Miami’s early commitments hail from Florida, with nine hailing from either Miami-Dade, Broward or Palm Beach counties. The class is currently ranked third in the nation by 247Sports.
