Research answers to save our treasures
As a native Floridian living in Fort Lauderdale with my husband and four children who love water sports, I was troubled by the recent algae blooms. I began extensive research on the lake discharge/Everglades/Florida Bay issues. I want to stop the harmful Lake Okeechobee discharges and preserve the Everglades.
“Buy the land” is being sold as the solution, and of course I want to find a solution. But what I found was that the South Florida Water Management District is and has been working tirelessly on well-researched, scientific plans that include many projects north, south, east and west of the lake to solve the harmful discharges, and they do not agree with Senate President Joe Negron’s plan.
I urge anyone who wants to learn more about what’s being done and why Negron’s plan is not the solution to visit sfwmd.gov. Lynn Dixon, Fort Lauderdale
