Builder launching 2 developments

GL Homes is launching sales for two new developments in March.

The Sunrise-based builder has scheduled a grand opening for Saturday at Berkeley, a 57-home project in West Boca adjacent to Burt Aaronson South County Regional Park. The homes will be priced from $865,900 to $1.1 million.

The following Saturday, March 11, buyers can pick out lots at Dakota, a 387-home project at the southeast corner of State Road 7 and Atlantic Avenue in West Delray. Those homes will be from $444,900 to $564,900.

Marcie DePlaza, chief operating officer for GL, said more than 3,000 people have inquired about the two developments.

“When you see demand like that, it makes you feel good about the market,” DePlaza said Tuesday.

GL will hold lot-selection lotteries if enough buyers show up at the grand openings, she said.

Berkeley sales will take place at the development south of Yamato Road on Coral Ridge Drive. GL will sell the Dakota homes from its Tuscany sales center on Atlantic Avenue.

Mediterranean home designs have been popular for years, but Berkeley and Dakota will feature more contemporary designs, DePlaza said.

GL long has been the dominant homebuilder in Palm Beach County. The company had 666 home starts and 732 closings last year, well ahead of No. 2 Lennar’s 280 starts and 299 closings, according to the Metrostudy research firm.

DePlaza said GL has sold more than 100 homes so far this year in Palm Beach County, primarily at Valencia Bay in West Boynton and Seven Bridges in West Boca.

“I suspect [GL] will do well with both Dakota and Berkeley,” Metrostudy Regional Director David Cobb said in an email. “Berkeley is up there in price but has a Boca address and they’ve been getting those prices in Seven Bridges. Dakota should be another home run.”
