ANGELS: More than a decade after escaping from Cuba, 3B Yunel Escobar has passed his naturaliza­tion test to become a U.S. citizen. “The greatest thing that can happen to you is to be a citizen of this great country,” Escobar said in Tempe, Ariz. At 21 in 2004, Escobar fled Cuba on a boat. He said giving up his Cuban citizenshi­p was difficult, “but I also know this is the country that is providing for me now and in the future.”

MARLINS: Ichiro Suzuki, 43, made his Grapefruit League debut, going 0-for-2 as the DH in a 7-7 tie with the Astros in Jupiter, Fla. Manager Don Mattingly said he hopes to give Suzuki more rest during the regular season. Suzuki started in 38 of his 54 right field appearance­s last season, with most of those coming when Giancarlo Stanton hit the DL.

METS: Former ace Matt Harvey had a rough start in his spring debut, surrenderi­ng four earned runs in 12⁄3 innings in a 14-11 loss to the Cardinals. Harvey is coming back from thoracic outlet syndrome surgery in July, ending a season in which he went 4-10 with a 4.86 ERA . ... Minor leaguer Tim Tebow, the former Heisman Trophy winner, is set to make his Grapefruit League debut Wednesday against the Red Sox.
