■ RED SOX: LHP David Price took a first step in his recovery from a sore elbow ahead of schedule, throwing into a net in a batting cage. Manager John Farrell said Price made 25 easy tosses Saturday before a Red Sox split squad played the Rays. Price still is a ways away from pitching off a mound, but Farrell said “the range of motion, the freeness to the movement is all positive.” ... Making his second Grapefruit League start, LHP

Chris Sale struck out five and gave up one hit over four scoreless innings as a split-squad Red Sox beat the Rays 2-1. Sale threw 42 of his 56 pitches for strikes.

■ BLUE JAYS: Reliever T.J. House was released from the hospital one day after he was hit in the head by a line drive during a spring training game. He was held overnight for observatio­n, but test results were normal and House arrived at the ballpark during Saturday’s game between the Blue Jays and Phillies. “I’m doing a lot better than I thought I would be doing today,” he said.

■ PIRATES: INF Jung Ho Kang was placed on the restricted list by the Pirates while he’s delayed in South Korea by visa issues related to a recent DUI arrest. Kang received an eight-month suspended prison sentence last week after a DUI arrest in December, his third such arrest in South Korea, but Pirates President Frank Coonelly said Kang’s move to the restricted list was “not a disciplina­ry matter.”

■ EXTRA INNINGS: Royals INF Raul Mondesi was held out after showing symptoms of a mild concussion following a collision at first base Friday against the A’s. He likely will be re-evaluated Sunday and manager Ned Yost seemed hopeful Mondesi would be able to practice again in a day or two . ... Yankees RHP Masahiro Tanaka threw four perfect innings and struck out the first six batters he faced in a 7-1 win over the Tigers.
