Waterfront wonder

Mansion offers unobstructed views of Biscayne Bay.

All around the waterfront mansion at 6480 Allison Road in Miami Beach, it can be hard to discern where the interior ends and the outdoors begins.

This is the novelty of the 10,632-square-foot estate designed by architect Ralph Choeff of Choeff Levy Fischman.

Floor-to-ceiling glass sliding doors open throughout the home to provide stunning views of Biscayne Bay and unbounded access to nearly every part of the home. The open-air setting offers a tranquil union with the outdoors that is rare in a traditional home.

“With all doors open, there is a complete connectivity to the outside,” Choeff said. “The whole house works together.”

A path of white blocks that appears to float leads guests over a reflecting pool and to the front entrance. This zen-like entryway sets the tone for the rest of the house.

Once inside, and with no standard walls as a boundary, a backyard that would normally be obstructed from view can be seen through the glass doors, along with a 55-foot-wide infinity pool, a covered cabana area and summer kitchen.

The indoor kitchen boasts a clean and sophisticated look, thanks to Canaletto Walnut wood cabinetry that conceals appliances and storage space.

The cabinets, which were crafted by Italian artisans and exported to Miami Beach, give the room a rich and warm feel.

Additional sliding glass doors in the kitchen open into an al fresco sitting or dining area, complete with two 20-foot living walls containing a variety of greenery, orchids and bromelia.

For the sommelier, a wine preserve with the capacity to hold more than 600 bottles occupies a space just off the kitchen. Inside, hand-carved wooden wine racks secure the bottles at the optimal angles for storage — one pitch for red and one for white.

The mansion, which took 18 months to complete, features seven bedrooms, nine bathrooms and two half baths.

The floating illusion found on the path to the front entrance also appears inside, as the stairs leading to the second floor seem to protrude from the walls.

The 2,400-square-foot master suite includes separate walk-in closets and master bathrooms, a shoe and handbag closet and a vanity. Picturesque sunsets also can be viewed from the room.

Four other bedrooms, including a mini-master suite, occupy the second floor, while the remaining two bedrooms are located downstairs.

The home also features a theater, elevator, catering kitchen, staff quarters and a three-car garage.

The backyard, situated on 110 feet of water frontage that includes an 80-foot dock, offers a complete view of the entire house.

From this vantage point, the second floor appears to hover above the first.

Originally listed for $24 million, the home was recently reduced to $19,999,900. Jeri Jenkins, of Coldwell Banker, is the listing agent.
