PIRATES: INF Jung Ho Kang remains in South Korea waiting to obtain his United States visa and be cleared for travel to Bradenton, Fla., where spring training has been in full swing for more than a month. Earlier this month, Kang, 29, received a suspended prison sentence after pleading guilty to his third DUI since 2009. The Pirates placed Kang on the restricted list last week, so he does not currently occupy a roster spot and will not be paid for any regular-season days he misses.

INDIANS: RHP Cody Anderson will undergo reconstruc­tive elbow surgery and miss the season. The American League champions said Sunday that Anderson has elected to have the operation after being diagnosed with a ligament sprain. The 26-year-old made nine starts the American League champions last season and was expected to begin this year at Triple-A Buffalo . ... 2B Jason Kipnis is still four to five weeks away from playing in a game as he deals with shoulder inflammati­on. He received a second opinion on his shoulder and has been cleared to resume a strengthen­ing program in a week.

MARLINS: 3B Martin Prado is expected to miss the start of the regular season after straining his right hamstring at the World Baseball Classic while playing for Venezuela. Marlins manager Don Mattingly already has ruled Prado out of the remaining exhibition games.

EXTRA INNINGS: Red Sox LHP Drew Pomeranz exited after two innings against the Twins because of tightness in his triceps . ... Blue Jays OF Kevin Pillar went a combined 0-for-7 while attempting to bunt for a hit in two minor-league contests, one in Triple A, the other in Double A. Pillar, who batted .266 in 146 games last season, is seeking to develop his bunting as an additional offensive tool, “something in my back pocket (as) another way to get on base.”
