Guns, drugs, cash seized in Pompano Beach raid
Eleven rifles, 28 handguns, narcotics and more than $21,000 were seized when Broward Sheriff ’s deputies raided a Pompano Beach home and storage unit and took a man into custody on drug charges.
Scott Fernandez, 46, was arrested on suspicion of possessing marijuana and trafficking in oxycodone, morphine, amphetamine and cocaine. He was not charged with any weapons offenses.
The guns were seized to make sure they would not be used in future crimes, said sheriff’s spokeswoman Keyla Concepcion.
“Weapons are often traded for narcotics,” she said in an email. “Thus far, we have determined at least six had been reported stolen.”
Among evidence in the case was 396 grams of cocaine, 383 grams of cannabis, 6 Flakka (Alpha PVP) pills and a gram of powder, 58 Xanax pills and other narcotics usually prescribed for pain and anxiety, according to an arrest report.
The agency distributed photographs that showed piles of cash and a full table of guns that were found in the storage unit during the raid Wednesday. It had not calculated the value of the drugs, Concepcion said.
During a court hearing Thursday, Assistant Public Defender Hector Romero sought a reduction of Fernandez’s $667,000 bond. Prosecutor Eric Linder said Fernandez’s home in the 2600 block of Northeast Twelfth Terrace “appears to be a drug house.”
Broward County Judge Michael Davis denied the request for a reduced bond.
