Head coach Lane Kiffin does not comment on lawsuit filed against him and the school.
BOCA RATON — Through a university spokesperson, Florida Atlantic coach Lane Kiffin declined to comment on the fraud lawsuit filed against him, FAU and the state of Florida on Tuesday.
In the suit filed in Shelby County, Ala., Antonio “A.C.” Carter accused Kiffin and FAU of fraud after he thought he was hired but then failed a background check.
Kiffin and FAU strength and conditioning coach Wilson Love allegedly offered Carter an assistant receivers coach and assistant strength and conditioning coach position to benefit from Carter’s relationship with a recruit FAU ultimately signed. Carter claims he was offered the job on Jan. 25 before the school revoked it Feb. 3.
In that time period, Carter said he helped recruit three prospects but was never compensated for his work. According to the suit, the position paid $40,000 annually plus bonuses and up to $4,000 for relocation.
Carter leveled six counts against Kiffin, FAU and the state, including reckless fraud, breach of contract, and unjust enrichment.
Pro day
Former FAU defensive end Trey Hendrickson is one of 13 players expected to participate in FAU’s Pro Day on Thursday. In February, he attended the NFL Combine and has been projected as a third- or fourthround pick by some analysts. Defensive linemen Shalom Ogbonda and Denzel Whitfield, defensive backs Alfred Ansley, Tevin Homer, DJ Juste, Anthony Hamilton
and Lester Thomas, tight end Tyler Cameron, offensive lineman Dillon DeBoer, punter Dalton Schomp and receiver Tony Thomas were also invited. Howard offensive lineman
Toree Boyd is scheduled to participate as well. FAU receivers coach Gary Harrell was the head coach at Howard last year.
FAU announced the addition of nine walk-on players after Tuesday’s tryouts: tight ends Ray Wilson and Robert Ball, receivers Brandon Robinson and Dasean Cannon, defensive backs Jake Lassiter,
Savion Harris and Abdias Corgelas, linebacker Silver Saunders, defensive lineman Collin Dell.
Kiffin said the Owls would practice in full pads Saturday afternoon. FAU was in helmets and shorts on both Tuesday and Thursday.
