Returning prayer to schools could be a good move

-

I was happy to read the article “Bill allows school prayer,” on Friday morning. I am not a churchgoing person now, but have been in the past. I tell friends that I don’t tell people what to believe, how to vote or who to love, but I see this as something positive in our schools at a time when there is so much negativity out there.

No one has to pray if they don’t want to, but just have a short time of silence. Growing up in Flint, Mich., in the fifth grade we had a teacher who would read Bible stories to us. No one was offended. We also said the Pledge of Allegiance.

My girlfriend and I had lunch together Thursday and talked about parenting. We would never sass back the teacher. We were brought up to respect them. It seems those happy times are not common today. I have some family members who are churchgoing, and some who do not believe in praying. I still love them and pray for them. It makes me feel better and they know it. So, thank you for this wonderful article. Beverly Wickham, Hollywood
